Gayatri Temple is located on the banks of the Narmada River on Omkareshwar Island in Madyha Pradesh. It was established by Swami Brhma Nandji in 1985 as a centre for yoga practice. It is now run by his wife and daughter Mamaji and Mangla devi ji.devi ji is a shree mad bbhagwat geeta chanter. The centre is conveniently located 20 minutes walk (or 5 minutes boat ride) from the centre of Omkareshwar - heading towards Sangam, where the Narmada river and the Kaveri river meet. It offers a peaceful retreat from the busy market area of the town.
Small, clean, basic rooms (with outside toilets and showers) are available at affordable prices. The atmosphere is conducive to yoga and meditation practice, and guests are encouraged to follow their own practice. Yoga lessons are available from deviji on request. Healthy meals are also available on request and can be shared with Mangla deviji and Mataji in their kitchen to give a fuller Indian family experience.
The Narmada river is a 2 minute walk from the ashram, where visitors can bathe or swim freely. Sangam is a 10 minute walk from the ashram and there is an exquisite parikramar (holy walk) around the island which passes through several ancient temples and there are many chai shops along the way where you can stop to appreciate the forest views and wildlife.
